Nike Balance Bar Runner Up World Champion |
| 19-Nov-2005 12:38:38 |

The US team Nike Balance Bar crossed the finish line in second place at 11.22am this morning, almost 13 hours behind Balance Vector, looking fresh and claiming the course was "excellent suffering."
Team member Ian Adamson told ARWorld Series director Geoff Hunt who welcomed them over the finish line that there are "many classes of suffering but that was excellent in every category."
Captain Mike Kloser says they got caught a lot at night time on the treks which probably made them at least four times slower. By contrast Balance Vector did a lot of their trekking in the daytime.
"it's a totally different world at nightime. Once the sun goes down its like Vietnam out there,"
says Monique Merrill.
The team made one major mistake in the Lyell range which cost them about five hours but otherwise didn't go wrong too often.
"We weren't making mistakes , we were learning to navigate the terrain," says Adamson. "We did try to go down a canyon at one stage into some waterfalls which was a bad idea."
The team slept for around seven hours the entire trip but Admason says he clocked up an extra hour.
"They kept snoring in the cave and I had to keep apologising to the guide," laughs Merrill.
Nike did not like the 89km mountain biking section and like Balance Vector say they had to carry their bikes a lot of the way.
"You should try going through there at night carrying your bike and a big pack," they challenged Hunt.
Nike Balance Bar is followed by GoLite Timberland which is currently on the last stage beachwalking to the finish. Port Nelson which is lying in fourth place has arrived at the Charleston Cliffs to begin abseiling.
